Radio Reunites Two Spanish War Veterans
[[line]]
George A. Dace, This City, Hears Old Shipmate on 'Hobby' Program

Two Spanish American war veterans who hadn't seen or heard from each other for 40 years were reunited this week by the radio.
One is George A. Race, 543 Hickory St., this city, and the other is W. J. Eck, assistant to the vice president of the Southern railway system at Washington D. C.
The two men served together on the U. S. Kilpatrick in the U. S. Navy during the war with Spain. During this enlistment they became close friends but after the war drifted apart and lost track of each other.
This week Dace was listening to the "Hobby Lobby" program being broadcast from New York City. One of those who spoke on their hobbies was Eck, whose pastime is airplane flying trips.
Recognizing the speaker as his old shipmate, the Allentonian wrote to Eck at the Southern Railway offices and yesterday received a long letter from him asking Mr. and Mrs. Dace to "be sure and look him up if they should ever come to Washington."
Eck's interest in flying dates back a number of years. He saw the Wright Brothers fly their first plane. He recently made a round trip to Europe aboard the Yankee Clipper, taking the seat originally reserved by the late Will Rogers several years ago before the latter's death.
Dace, mustered out of service Sept. 12, 1902, made three trips around the world in Uncle Sam's transport service, as well as numerous trips to Japan, the Philippine Islands, Honolulu, Cuba and San Francisco.

W.J.E. c/o W.J.Z _ I saw in the paper sometime ago that you had seat #2. Will Rogers #1. & my wife & I speculated as to whether you would leave your bride [[underlined]] for a trip to Europe [[/underlined]]. Tonight I tuned in W.J.Z. at 8:55 to get his Hoovers Speech at 9. & the 1st thing I heard was the statement about Will R. again & then your name. It was nice to hear your voice again - wonderfully clear & to learn that you were at Kitty Hawk (or so I understood it) & what a "high flyer" you have been all these years. it was a revelation to me. Congratulations & welcome home Hope you'll tell us about it in Oct. I suppose Sept Meeting will be too full of 3 months [[?]] to give you [[?]] these.
Sincerely
Holly
