Colonel Benjamin O. Davis
Commanding Officer
Lockbourne Air Force Base
Columbus, Ohio

Dear Colonel Davis:

This letter will introduce Captain Ruth A Lucas who has commanded our WAC Detachment at this station--and previously at Geiger Field, Washington--for the past two and one-half years, until its recent deactivation, since she is now coming to your station for duty. Captain Lucas has done a fine job and in addition to being technically competent she is cheerful, hard working and thoroughly cooperative. You are gaining a fine officer.

Prior to joining us at Geiger Field, Captain Lucas commanded a WAC Squadron at another station for two years, making a total of four and one-half years in this work. If she were to continue at this station, I would be inclined to change her to some type of administrative staff job, not because of any defection in the quality of her work but because the command of troops is very demanding and I believe she is entitled to a change in work which makes less demand on the off duty hours of the officer. I hope you don't mind me offering this suggestion.

It has been a long time since we left school but I have heard of you frequently and congratulate you on the fine record you have made with your outfit in the Mediterranean and at Lockbourne. So far I have had a very routine and unspectacular career as an Engineer officer. Next month I leave here and the Air Force for a tour in the Office of the Chief of Engineers. Whenever you get to Washington, I would enjoy your dropping in.

If I can help by giving further information on any of the personnel who are joining your station from this one, don't hesitate to give me a call.

Best of luck,
