Civilian Personnel.

Lt. Col. R. C. Weller
Commanding Officer
Headquarters 4th Sub–Depot
Amarillo Army Technical School
Amarillo Field
Amarillo, Texas

1. Reference is made to your letter of November 21 to Lt. Col. B.O. Davis, Jr., Commanding Officer, 99th Pursuit Squadron, Tuskegee Army Flying School, Tuskegee, Alabama, in the interest of Mr. Handley A. Hickey, who is employed as a Woodworker at your Sub-Depot.

2. There are no vacancies in the Woodworking Department at this Sub-Depot for which the services of Mr. Handley can be utilized at this time. There is a splendid opportunity for experienced and qualified mechanics at this Station. It is contemplated that the entire Sub-Depot will eventually be manned by all colored personnel. Approximately fifty (50) civilian employees were transferred to this Station from San Antonio Air Depot, Duncan Field, San Antonio, Texas, in April, 1942. However, due to the acute housing situation in this vicinity, it is not considered feasible by Headquarters to consider the transfer for additional civilian personnel to this Sub-Depot from distant communities unless such personnel has some outstanding ability in one of the mechanical trades.
