* When flying into Rio, passed coastal sierra. [[double underline]] All [[/double underline]] bare, except for patches. M. says all deforestation. 

While at Tijuca [[Barh?]], some birds brought in. IBDF has agents apparently scanning pet shops; They expropriate birds + release them. the three "girls" in Magnanini's office upset because no attempt to feed + water animals; They are just released.

COIMBRA POSITION
With state of Guanabara merged with Rio, Coimbra has been made director of nature Protection + Conservation Institute for new state. Apparently in strong position w.r.t. Federal Govt. 

M. expressed hopes that he could collaborate with Coimbra and develop program for training National Park people. He believes they have the brain power at Guarabana + IBDF might be willing to contract one aspects of Nat'l. Park Development to State where expertise is.
