Jim believes that there used to be one large group which split recently & that the [[insertion]] tame [[/insertion]] at Romildo/Rudolfo's house became the dominant male of one of the groups. I indicated to Jim that I believed that there were already 2 groups in June 1982 when I visited & that the tame male was provoking encounters. Carlos thinks that 2 groups were also already there. This group(s) probably include animals that were transplanted into the Reserve by Dionisio in '79-'81. [[end page]] [[start page]] Carlos and I move thru lowland to upland area full of spiny black palms. I have never seen such a density of black palms & wonder what causes it - soil, altitude? Carlos believes that animals spend time in swamp in morning hunting insects & then in later afternoon go upland to feed on fruits. Ben [& Jim] believe that they feed on fruits first to fill bellies (my interpretation - get a quick hit of sugar for energy). I am not sure that any of us have data to support any of the hypotheses.
