Jim is convinced that larger groups move as subgroups before splitting, partly

because of his experience with group near Romildo/Rudolfo's house. Initially, there was apparently a large group which he trapped.
Then 1.3 or thereabouts split, leaving 1.2 adults -1.1 juveniles in the original group.
Unfortunately the initial capture of the group(s) was at a junction between 2 territories. So, Jim might well have captured 2 groups instead of the one large one that he thought he had, since GLTs are certainly attracted by other GLTs calling.
