The zoo itself has lots of land & some very nice enclosures, several islands with Adeles/ Cebus/ Sarmili / Nasua in a large man-made lake, lots of large bird enclosures & a couple of good caiman/ alligator enclosures.

They have a family group of 6 Pteronura & have already sent some to Germany. Also breeding [[underlined]] Mazama americana [[/underlined]]. 

Other few mammals, especially South American, since altho they had planned to have only Brazilian fauna, they were pressured into bringing lions/giraffes and some other African wildlife.

Really sad state is that the state govt just took a rundown favella in the zoo grounds &

made it presentable so that there are 2000-2500 people living in favellas within the zoo grounds!

Apparently they were caught killing & eating capybara, as well as some other zoo species.

The "governor" of Brazilia decided on making the zoo habitable for people - a terrible decision:

Milton's primate center has 3 tiers of Coimbra-like cage with [[underlined]] Callithrix jacchus [[/underlined]] & [[underlined]] C. penicillata [[/underlined]].

Narrow cages but OK for Callithrix unfortunately he'd had an outbreak of diarrhea the previous day & didn't know whether he had some disease or just bad mangoes.
