History of the Club (Continued)

born to club members. Dolores [[partly illegible]] ling's son, Richard Jr., received the first gift. Since then, a total of 20 gifts has been given to new babies.

In an effort to fulfill one of the aims of our club, that is, to establish good will among ourselves and the community, we started our main project for 1947, the Base Nursery. We owe much to the Nursery Board for the success of this undertaking. With the help of each club member, the Nursery opened to all children of nursery school age in October 1947. Mrs. Rosalyn Fairfax became the first Supervisor. The Nursery served as inspiration for our big project of 1948 - a Baby Contest sponsored by the Program Committee. A total of $445.06 was raised. Despite the success the Nursery enjoyed, toward the end of 1948 some members felt this project was too much of a strain on the club and suggested relinquishing it to some other agency on the Base. Beginning in January 1949 the Officers' Club agreed to take over full responsibility for the Base Nursery.

This past Thanksgiving, as in former years, the Charity Committee presented baskets of food to needy families in the community. Prior to Xmas old clothes were collected and given. Our policy has always been to render service wherever and whenever needed. The Red Cross, Air Force Day activities, and the Community Chest have all received our situation.

Glancing backward over the past three years many of us are prone to ask ourselves, "Have we really grown?" Starting with a membership of 20, we now have 67 on roll. There has been growth in our recognition, approach, and handling of problems. With the Preamble to our Constitution as our guide, we shall continue to grow in fellowship, goodwill, social activities, culture, and education.
