GREETINGS

I am grateful for this opportunity to say a word of greeting to the Officers' Wives" Club. I sincerely hope that you will realize just how important you, the women of the Army can be in setting patterns for constructive welfare work, that in you own way you will make Lockbourne Air Base a warm, cheerful, livable place.

There are many things you can do to help us, even though the war is over and our needs have changed somewhat. Without being too specific I offer to you as fields of endeavor; first, any project for the welfare of personnel on the field as a whole; second, any project for the welfare of a particular activity which you decide is worthy of your efforts; third, any charitable project on or off the field that you consider worthwhile.

Best of luck to you in all of your undertakings.

COLONEL B.O. DAVIS, Jr.
Commanding Officer

NURSERY

The O.W.L. Club has started plans for a nursery which will be opened in the near future for children of military personnel on this base.

The building consists of two large rooms and one small room that can be transformed to meet the requirements of our plans. There is
much work to be done and any suggestions donations or aid will be appreciated towards the completion of the nursery for pre-school children.

We hope to lay a strong and good foundation for the Nursery because it will reflect the progress of our club as well as the morale of this base upon which it will be situated.

FAMILY QUARTERS

A fine community spirit is evident now that most of the family quarters for officers and enlisted men at Lockbourne have reached completion. Some of these quarters have been occupied for almost two months.

Five buildings, formally officers quarters and twenty-seven enlisted men's barracks were converted into attractive apartments at a cost of $473,183. The quarters consist of 110 units, 56 of which are for enlisted men and 54 for officers. Each building has a separate heating plant.

The quarters are quite adequate. A stove and refrigerator are furnished in each. The Air Corps was unable to secure other furnishings, therefore these will be furnished by the families renting the apartments. The assignment of quarters is being done in keeping with the military custom from the highest rank to lowest, in both the assigned officers quarters and enlisted men's quarters.
