MOTHER'S DAY
The second Sunday in May is designated for the honoring of MOTHERHOOD and the loving remembrance of one's mother. Literally every day could reasonably be called Mother's Day because only through the virtuous and heroic deeds, the love and sacrifices of mothers every day in the year can our civilization progress.

Mothers know that their duties involve our future citizens and therefore no risks should be taken in their upbringing. Mothers are always due all of the love, kindness and honor that we can give them.

The look of understanding on a mother's face when a child is misunderstood, a smile that is resplendent when everything else is gloomy--we remember these things no matter how old we are.

A mother can cry when a child goes ro school and leaves her for the first time and yet she can send her son off to War with a generous smile. She might be weak in the eyes of men, bur would face any terror to keep her child from harm. These are indications of a mother's true character.

No one does so much and asks so little in return. Like a tree that bears fruit and gives it willingly--so does a mother give her offsprings to the world. They are hers only for a few years, but during that time their personalities and outlooks are shaped. A mother tries to do her task well because this is her contribution to society.

Each child is a traveler and each mother is a star that guides him in the right direction. May such travelers reach their destinies and may the stars forever shine brightly to light their ways.

GENERAL QUESADA VISITS LAAB

Major General Elwood R Quesada, 43-year-old General of the Tactical Air Command, Langley Field, Va, paid a flying visit to Lockbourne AAB on 29 April, for a one-day inspection tour of the base.

Accompanied by an engineer, the youthful General piloted his own plane-- an A-26 bomber.

Upon his arrival at the base, General Quesada was met on the line by Colonel B O Davis, Jr, Base Commander, several members of his staff, and Colonel Reynolds, TAC Staff Chaplain. An Honor Guard comprised of MP's and troops from various squadrons and the 766th AAF Band were also on hand to greet the General.

One of the youngest Generals in the Army Air Forces, the veteran pilot is considered a favorite son of Lockbournites. Heading one of the three Major Combat Commands in the AAF, General Quesada also has under his supervision the Ninth Air Force whose Headquarters is at Greenville AAB, S C, and the Twelfth Air Force, March Field, California.

Shortly after his arrival General Quesada and Colonel Davis inspected the palatial apartment of Captain and Mrs. Albert Manning. At 1:30 PM General Quesada attended a Band Concert at the Base Theatre given in his honor. Inclement weather spoiled plans for a Parade and Inspection of Troops on the Parade Grounds. scheduled for 3:30 PM.

[[underlined]] Cocktail Party [/underlined]]
The social highlight of the day was a Cocktail Party held at 8 O'clock in the Lounge of the Officers' Club. This was a gala event with most of the officers, their wives, and friends attending.

Cocktails were served throughout the evening. A table was decorously arranged with hors d'oeuvres, condiments, candies, nuts and cigarettes. These lent a delightful air of informality to the occasion. Dancing to rhythmic music of the Lockbourne Trio furnished diversion.

Colonel Reynolds was the guest of honor. Several pilots of the Royal Canadial Air Force added an international touch to the affair. [[line]]
