Correction Please
Sir,
We have just seen in your issue of November . . . page 11 . . . the statement that Nuffield have handed their distribution for Morris cars over to Don Sutton Brown Ltd. It is entirely incorrect. We are, and have been for many years, sole distributors for Morris cars in Jamaica. Sutton Brown was appointed a dealer by us . . . .

Brothels & Covenants
Sir,
In the last issue of your magazine there appears a short article on brothels . . . in "exclusive residential areas." I must congratulate you on your views. One really cannot blame the owners and operators of these brothels. Being people without any shame or pride, it is natural to suppose that they will do their nefarious business wherever they are allowed to.

As you quite rightly state, it is up to the residents to see that the restrictive covenants are enforced. . . . You apparently do not know the great difficulty that residents experience in the courts when they try to do so.

It seems to me . . . that if the citizens of these districts will get together in what I may call civic bodies, not only could they take effective concerted action against brothels, but they could bring about much of the general civic improvements which these districts need, such as more lights, better police supervision, the planting of ornamental trees, the abatement of the nuisance of straying animals which destroy flowers and vegetable gardens, and so on.

In your previous issue, you quoted Colonel Oliver Stanley's words to us when he came here in January 1946, that "if citizens desire a clean and progressive community they must make it so." We should take these words to heart and act upon them, or no part of our island will be fit for decent people to live and bring up their children in.

Sir,
The news item (on brothels) . . . in your November issue . . . has been read by me with deep interest. I feel sure the residents in Springfield greatly appreciate the item and it is quite evident you have very good grounds for publishing such an item on which you have based your opinion.

It does appear to me that you are in possession of important facts that will be of immense value and help to the Society. If you would be so good as to grant an interview an officer of the Society will be pleased to call on you concerning any facts you may care to disclose.
