stints for BBC, Television and E. Martin Brown's Season of Plays by Poets at the advanced Mercury Theatre, London.

As Prince Charming in "Cinderella," she won the critics completely over. Then she shipped out to see Author-Philosopher Gai Eaton, her 4-yr.-long husband and teacher of English and History at Henry Fowler's Priory High School, Jamaica. She arrived in Kingston in August, properly in time to be cast by Director Noel Vaz as the Prince, a leading role in "Beauty and the Beast", L.T.M.'s 1948 pantomime. LTMers were happy to have such good company.

The 15th Century classic of "Beauty and the Beast" has never ceased to intrigue lovers of fairy tales. It is just the kind of tale of the old Central Europeans told their young 'uns when they were not fighting across the border or on the home soil.

Kind and gentle "Beast." [[/caption]]

It runs: A rich merchant had a very beautiful daughter. One day his ships were in distress at sea.
(How did he know? Mental telepathy, no doubt). He set out to meet them. He had to pass through the kingdom of a strange prince. Enroute he met a beast which promptly pronounced him a trespasser and held him prisoner.

Anxious to see his ships, the merchant made a deal with the beast: his daughter for his freedom. Good, said the beast, and let the merchant go.

Spell Breaker. The daughter found the beast bewitchingly gentle and kind. She soon discovered why: he was the prince who a bad-tempered witch had bewitched. She grew to love him. One day she stumbled upon a white flower, plucked it and gave the beast. Instantly he was transformed into a prince: the flower was the spell-breaker. Finale: the happy ending.

Kay Clayton plays the prince-beast. The show opens at Ward Theatre on Boxing Day. LTMers are sure they have a fitting follow-on to last year's record-breaking "Cinderella" panto.
