Little waifs and strays, victims of a social system which provides no penalty for bastardy, desertion by father or mother, little victims of poverty that sends them scrimmaging for scraps in public garbage containers or begging pennies in the streets, are still being haled into open court and their offences headlined by a cynical daily press.

Rich men's wives all have time to kill. Communally speaking, they are of two kinds: useless and useful. Owen Karl Henriques, Government Nominated Member, and reputed chief brain of the Henriques industrial empire*.

Slim, dark-haired and beautiful like a Latin, Kingston-born Mrs. Henriques is far above average in culture, brains and intelligence. Her knowledge of French and Russian literature is scholastic. Her French aristocratic manners are environmental of New Orleans, La., where she lived and was schooled from early childhood up to her marriage to O. K. in 1935. Her charm and easy grace are inborn.
