U.S. Air Force Colonel Back To Have "Good Look" Of Island

Colonel Benjamin Davis Jr., of the United States Ninth Air Force South Carolina, accompanied by his wife, arrived here yesterday afternoon in a Pan American Clipper from Port-Au-Prince, Haiti to spend a 5-day vacation.

A son of Brigadier General Benjamin Davis, retired U.S. Army officer of Washington, he came here last month from the United States on a training flight and stayed at Vernamfield.

Col. Davis said yesterday, that he enjoyed his short stay here immensely and decided to return with his wife to have a good look of the island.

Leaving New York on December 28 they proceeded to the Virgin Islands thence to Puerto Rico, the the Dominican Republic and Haiti.  From here they go to Havana then back to the United States.

"My wife and I have had a most Pleasant trip around the Caribbean and we Are looking forward to seeing as much as possible of Jamaica," he said.

Mrs. Davis who is paying her first visit said that her impressions of the island were very favourable.

Colonel Benjamin Davis attended the U.S. Military Academy and received his wings as a pilot in March 1942.

He went overseas a year later served as Commanding Officer 332nd Fighter Group in the Mediterranean theatre of operations.

He flew sixty missions and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Legion of Merit, the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters and the Army Commendation Ribbon.

His wife is the former Miss Agatha Scott of New Haven, Conn.

Colonel Davis and his wife are staying at the Myrtle Bank Hotel.
