western civilization, depends directly on the degree to which we are willing to break with outmoded traditions and dogmas and recognize and accept the new factors with which we must deal. Only in the direction of individual initiative and original thought will military man find satisfactory solutions to his most perplexing problems. 

As you depart from this institution I am confident that you are better prepared to meet the challenge that confronts you. In all sincerity I hope that our mutual association has been as stimulating, profitable and pleasant for you as it has been for me. To each of you I extend my personal congratulations.
