45 he was back in the U.S. soon to be a veteran. After eleven months of civil life he became a "career solider" and was assigned to Civil Affairs Division, Pentagon. From the Pentagon he reported to AWC. Next stop FEC - doing what, no know. Hobbies include bowling, wood working, philately and flying a "puddle jumper." His chief of Staff, Nelle Marie, "emigrated" from Kansas to Washington, where they met. 

WALLACE C. BARRETT, COLONEL, USAF 1254A

"Wally" was born December 31, 1910, and calls Henderson, Texas his home. He attended Marion Military Institute for two years and then entered USMA, graduating in 1936, whereupon he joined the Air Corps, receiving his wings at Kelly Field in 1937. He became a pilot in the 97th Observation Squadron at Mitchel Field. In 1938, he attended the Autogyro school at Wright Field. After graduating from this school, he was ordered to Post Field, Ft. Still, Oklahoma, to fly observer missions for the field artillery. He remained at Post Field until 1942 where he rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel and post commander. In late 1942, he went to Michigan and commanded five winter operational training fields for the Third Air Force. In early 1943, he went to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and took the 42nd Air Depot Group, trained it and took it to England. He commanded the 4th Tactical Air Depot until December 1944, when he transferred to the 1st provisional Air Force in France and took command of the 17th Bomb Group. He flew 35 combat missions before the war was over and then returned to the ZI in June 1945. He commanded the mobile training units in Western Technical Training Command for one year. Then, he attended the Air Command and Staff School at Maxwell Air Force Base. Upon graduation in 1947, he went to England and set up the Air Exchange Program between the RAF and USAF. This post he kept for two years. In July 1949, he returned to the ZI and began the course of the Air War College, Maxwell Air Force Base. His proposed assignment upon graduation is in P&O of DCS/O. Wally's hobbies are golf, tennis, and photography. His wife, Dorie, is from Garden City, Long Island, N.Y. Children are Joan (age 12) and Babs (age 8).

WILLIAM J. BELL, COLONEL, USAF, 930A

"Bill" was born on 1 February 1908 and calls Buffalo, New York his home. He was class of 1931 USMA and received his wings at Kelly Field in September 1932. His first station assignment was Albrook Field, Panama C.Z., 24th Pursuit Sq. In 1935 he joined the 17th Pursuit Sqdn, 1st Pursuit Group, Selfridge Field. In 1937 he joined the 15th Observation Sqdn at Scott Field. He graduated from the Air Corps Tactical School (short course) in 1940. In 1940 he moved to Fort Knox and became Air Officer, 1st Armored Division, later Air Officer, the Armored Force. In 1942 he became Air Officer of the Amphibious Training Center at Camp Edwards and later Camp Gordon Johnson, Florida. He attended the Navy War College graduating in June 1943. Upon graduation he became Chief of Troop Carrier Branch, Requirements Div., O.C. & R. Hq, Air Forces. In May 1944, he activated the 2nd Combat Cargo Group at Syracuse, New York and upon
