which he took thru OTU in Calif. and Wyoming, finally moving overseas to the 8th AF to Raydon Woods near Colchester, England in Dec. 1943. In Apr. 1943, he was assigned to the 9th AF as A-3 of the 84th Fighter Wing, in England and Normandy, and as an operations officer in IX TAC in Belgium. In Nov. 1943, he took command of the 367th Fighter Gp. (P-38 and P-47) in France, moving to Frankfort, Germany for the final phase of the European war. In the fall of 1945, he attended the C&GS School at Ft. Leavenworth, then moved to Maxwell where he instructed in the Tactical Air Section of the AC&SS School, until reporting to the AWC. His proposed assignment is the AF Fighter Gunnery School, Nellis AFB, Los Vegas, Nev. "Chick" is a member of Chi Psi Fraternity. His hobbies are golf, fishing and hunting. His wife, Mary Jean, is from Little Rock, Ark.

ALAN D. CLARK, COLONEL, USAF, 1340A

"Al" was born 10 October 1913 at Newport, Rhode Island, the son of an officer in the Coast Artillery Corps of the U.S. Army. He enlisted in the Coast Artillery Corps in 1932 at Fort Monroe, Va., and attended the Third Corps Area Preparatory School where he won a West Point appointment from the Regular Army. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in the Class of 1937 and after completing his flight training at Randolph and Kelly received his wings in October of 1938. He was assigned to the 2nd Bombardment Group (H), Langley Field, Va., later transferring to the 25th Bombardment Group and going with that unit to Puerto Rico in the fall of 1940. He remained in Puerto Rico until July of 1943 after being assigned such duties as Maintenance Squadron Commander, A-4, Puerto Rico Area Service Command, Depot Engineering Officer and A-3 of the Antilles Air Command. In 1943 he was reassigned to the 58th Bombardment Wing and activated the 492nd Bombardment Group (B-29) later being transferred as deputy Group Commander of the 444th Bombardment Group and going overseas to India and China with that unit in April of 1944. He commanded the China base of this  unit while overseas. He returned again to the ZI in the fall of 1944 and commanded the 22nd Bomber Command until that unit was inactivated and he was assigned as Director of Operations and Training of the Air Forces Tactical Center. In June of 1945 he again was sent overseas to the 58th Bombardment Wing as Chief of Operations on Tinian Island in the Mariannas. He returned in November of 1945 to March Field with that Wing and in January of 1946 was assigned as A-3 of Task Group 1.5, the Air Force unit involved in the Bikini Atomic Bomb tests later becoming Chief of Staff of this unit. He returned from Kwajalein at the completion of the Atomic tests and was assigned as A-4 of the newly reactivated Hq, 8th Air Force. In the summer of 1947 he was assigned as Commanding Officer of the 7th Bombardment Wing at Ft. Worth, Texas. This unit received and operated the B-36 aircraft in the SAC. He reported to the AWC from this assignment. His next assignment is to the Field Office of the AF Inspector General, with Hq, at Kelly Field, Texas. He likes fishing, tennis, golf, swimming, and hunting. He married a daughter from the Field Artillery at Ft. Sill, Okla. Mellie and Al have three children; Alan D., Jr. (9), Elizabeth S. (7) and John M. (5).
