PRESTON STEELE, LT.COLONEL, USA, O-18729

"Tony" was born in Havana, Cuba on 2 October 1908, the son of an Army Officer. He graduated from High School in Los Angeles, California in 1926, and from the United States Military Academy at West Point in the class of 1932. Commissioned in the Coast Artillery Corps, he served prior to the was at various posts in the United States and on Corregidor, P. I., and completed the Battery Officer's course at the Coast Artillery School in 1938. At the outbreak of the war he was stationed at Borinquen Field, P. R. as AA Officer with the 6th Interceptor Command. In 1943, he assumed command of the 497th AAA Gun Battalion at Camp Stewart, Ga. and took this unit overseas to Guadalcanal. In May of 1944 he became Executive Officer of the 68th AAA Brigade and served in this capacity on Bougainville, Luzon and in the Initial landing of Occupations Troops at Yokahoma, Japan. He returned to the United States in October, 1945, attended the C&GS School at Leavenworth and was then assigned as Senior ORC Instructor for the State of Delaware. In 1948 he was transferred to Headquarters First Army, where he became Executive, ORC Division, New York, New Jersey, Delaware Military District., and remained in that assignment until ordered to the Air War College. His next assignment is to the G03 section, Office, Chief, Army Field Forces at Fort Monroe, Virginia. "Tony" enjoys golf, photography and can bowl a pretty good score too. His wife, Kitty, is from Muskegon, Michigan. Children are Robert (age 13) and David (10).

LORING F. STETSON, JR., COLONEL, USAF, 1738A

"Stets" was born in Seattle, Washington in November of 1911. He attended the University of Washington until 1935 at which time he entered the Air Corps and graduated from Kelly in the Pursuit Class of 1936. His first tactical assignment was with the 20th Pursuit Group at Barksdale Field. In May of 1941 he assumed command of the 57th Pursuit Sqdn of the 54th Group and in September of 1942 was assigned as Squadron Commander of his original unit, the 79th Squadron of the 20th Pursuit Group. In December 1942 he was given command of the 357th Fighter Group during its organization and training for overseas assignment. He departed the ZI in August of 1943 for the Mediterranean where he commanded the 33rd Fighter Group which left for the West Pacific in April of 1945. He remained with this Group until after the surrender of Japan. In 1946 and 1947 he served as CO of the 52st Fighter Group and as Deputy and later Commander of the 301st Fighter Wing on Okinawa. Upon his return to the States he served as Commander of the 14th Fighter Group and the 14th Fighter Wing at Bangor, Maine until his assignment at the AWC. He is now assigned to CONAC and the Western Air Defense Force at Hamilton AFB.  Stets just likes "all sports period" but shows a slight preference for golf if he has to
