New York City.

RS:M

November 25th, 1932

My dear Mr. Blumenthal,

I have just discussed with my cousin, Mr. Germain Séligmann, the bids you have given me for the George Blumenthal auction, and according to the information that we have both from here and from Paris, we consider that it is not worth while to transmit them, with the exception of:

#57 - painting by SCHALL - Fr. 25,000.-
#80 - jardinière mounted in Louis XV au milieu - Fr. 12,500.-
#94 - pair of small Chinese mounted jardinières - Fr. 15,000.-
#79 - clock and two candlesticks - Fr. 50,000.-
#98 - marble figure by FALCONET - Fr. 75,000.-

though these bids are very low.

Will you kindly confirm these bids to us.

You also inquired what value we put on #31, which ^ [[is]] the large GUARDI. We feel sure that it will not sell under Fr.40,000.-. Should you be interested in it, will you please add this bid to the other ones?

As regards the following items at the prices you indicated, that is,

#36 - MOREAU - Fr. 2,000.-
#51 - GUARDI - Fr. 2,000.-
#52 - GUARDI - Fr. 2,000.-
#54 & 55 - HUBERT ROBERT - Fr. 25,000.-
#193 - Savonnerie carpet - Fr.125,000.-
#147 - small Louis XV screen - Fr. 25,000.-
#26 - a very fine gouache by DUGOURC - Fr. 50,000.-

We are, in spite of present conditions, buyers of these items ourselves at a higher figure.

As I told you, you will have no commission charge on our part for our carrying out your instructions, but as is customary above all bids there is a charge of 14% which goes towards taxes to the government and auctioneer expenses, which is added to our bids as in every public auction in France.

Awaiting your reply,
Believe me to be
Yours sincerely,

JACQUES SELIGMANN & COMPANY, Inc.
