Dear Mr. Seligmann:

Receipt is gratefully acknowledged of your kind letter dated the 18th instant, and I fully agree and appreciate your reasoning. For your information, and in confidence, transactions with the Toronto interested parties are being procrastinated until mid October, in view of the theft which recently occured at the Gallery there. In order to keep you posted, respecting your interest in Baron Gros, I will let you know the outcome of this.

In reply to para. 2 of your letter, please find enclosed photo-copies of correspondence concerning the painting of Marechal Massena, attributed to Baron Gros. I would appreciate knowing your opinion once you have seen the canvas, unofficially of-course, and I trust you will not use my name in contacting Wildenstein & Co.

As soon as other slides of the portrait of Countess d'Hanins de Moerkerke are ready, within a fortnight, I will forward one to you, for your file on this artist. At the moment, we are out of them, the best ones being in Toronto.

May I enquire, if the portrait still exists, where the Queen of Westphalia, by Baron Gros, is at the moment? As I intend to be in Europe between January-March, I would like to see the original. It is the one of H.M. (during Her short reign) on a horse. As from reproductions I noticed a resemblance to our Countess, you understand I would like to check the original, even though I am not an expert, only an admirer of these precious works of art.

Should I be in New York before leaving for Europe, I would appreciate the opportunity of making your acquaintance and take advantage of your hospitality to see your collections.

Sincerely yours,
