Dear George Brown:

First let me say I did receive the transparencies and have looked them over from time to time since their arrival. My conclusions - they all are eversomuch better than the one painting I did see last year. I have marked them in order of my preference, those I like best are No. 1, and then less are No. 2, and there is then the final less successful (in my opinion) group. I believe the better work is from your own surroundings, and when you work in fairly broad surfaces...perhaps somewhat in the style of Milton Avery.

Now, if you can interpret some of the local activities with which you are familiar into a religious theme....in a timeless manner, in other words do not resort to robes for personages (I already have for instance, a painting of a young man in today's dress and titled "The Good Shepherd") I would perhaps be able to recommend it for a big contemporary religious art show I am organizing for Washington's Cathedral to mark their 50th. Anniversary. The show will not be until next Fall but I have to have and submit the photographs in January.

Now another topic, would you like to make a line drawing for me for use as my Christmas card? An enclosing a copy of last year's which was done by Constantine Kermes in his own style, of course. The style has of course to be your's...and there is a small compensation, for instance $10. Would that be acceptable? I would rather like to see what you could do with the same elements of a crown or bishop's miter, a shepherd's crook and a star...perhaps with an outlike of your
