At 16:20 we replied: "do not desire you to meet us outside".

At 16:21 #1 replied that she would arrive entrance Ferrol at 4:45 G.M.T.

The operator then added that he had heard us 450 miles.

At 16:28 station "E" sent: "Will be outside making big smoke".

At 16:37 the station at Ferrol inquired in Spanish if were "Hydroaeroplane North Americans", to which I replied that we were.

I reeled in at 16:45 and we spiraled down to a landing at 16:47.

The Harding came in from sea about 15 minutes later. I did not charge the battery at this point even though it had been used considerably at Figueira.

We left Ferrol at 06:27 the following morning (May 31), climbing rapidly so that I was working on the trailing wire at 06:33.

The Harding was sending our time of departure to station #2 for relaying to Confran, Brest and Admiral Plunkett at Plymouth.

At 06:37 the #4 was heard to send the message to the Rochester.

At 06:45 I requested reports from #2, #3, and #4.

#2 replied at 06:51, #3 at 07:04, and #4 at 07:11 with full reports. The visibility was very good at #2, good at #3, and fair at #4.

#5 (Biddle) was very loud on his compass schedule but two minutes ahead of time, so I called him and corrected his time.

Requested compass signals from #2 at 07:30. His bearing was 5[[degree symbol] to the right. We passed #2 at 07:43.

At 07:51 I asked #3 for compass signals. He started but broke down, then started again at 07:58 at which time his bearing was 30[[degree symbol] to the left. It had begun to get foggy, and the Navigator requested further readings. At 08:06 his bearing was 35[[degree symbol] to the left, and at 08:23, 40[[degree symbol] to the right.

#5 then sent a weather report saying the visibility was 15 miles.
