At 08:30 #3 was 45^o to the right, getting fainter and at the same time #4 was 20^o to the left, changing at 08:48 to 40^o to the left. This proved that we were too far inside for the bearing or #3 was a stern bearing.

I phoned this to the Navigator and at 09:01 he said #4 was in sight.

At 09:03 #4 said she had sighted us. We flew over her at 09:06.

I had been informed that there would be a #6 destroyer (Stockton) near Plymouth, but had not heard her. At 09:19 I inquired of the #5. He wasn't sure, but the #4 volunteered the information that she was, although #6 did not answer when I called.

At 9:31 I was surprised at the signal intensity of the Rochester at Plymouth. She was calling with a message and I told her to "shoot it" as her signals were loud. The following message was received: "Desirable NC-4 land inside breakwater near Rochester then taxi to mooring in Cattewater west of Mount Batten period British plane will probably lead you to mooring period Aroostook boat at mooring".

I requested a weather report from the Rochester as I told her I couldn't get #6. #6 evidently heard this for at 09:50 she sent a full report saying visibility was seven miles on surface and hazy overhead.

At 0956 the Rochester sent the following: "Weather in Plymouth fine - light northwesterly breezes, clear overhead but slightly hazy around horizon period apparently splendid flying weather period Stockton is in position 09531".

I had neglected to get bearings from #5 and at 10:01 she was between 45[[degree symbol]] and 50[[degree symbol] to the right. As we had been to the eastward of the line I assumed that we must have passed her and that the bearing was a reciprocal, so advised her that we had passed her.

At 10:21 #6 sent a weather report saying conditions were improving (they were anything but that where we were.) and inquiring what time we would arrive at his station. I replied that we had passed #5 about 10 A.M. and that I thought we were going to fly over Brest.

I then happened to think about getting a time tick from the Eiffel Tower, but upon inquiring from #5, I learned that I had just missed his schedule. I learned that Nauen, Germany, sent at noon, but 4000 meters was beyond the range of my receiver.

At 10:50 the GEORGE WASHINGTON at Brest called and informed
