and dined at the Charlie Carrolls.  Phil got in at eight and was there.  He and 16 young men have come from American to drive ambulances for my Unit. Wednesday Phil came to see me early to talk over matters.  Still go for a walk every afternoon late.  B. Dr Martin & Greenough dined with me Wednesday.  Dr Du Buchet & Dr Gros also. Charlie Carroll came in after dinner and we discussed plans and decided on them.  Greenough says one month to get in.

Thursday Thanksgiving Day I [[strikethrough]] dined [[/strikethrough]] lunched at the Herricks.  Sat between Mr Gay the artist and Leut. Grebler very nice American Army man.  Herrick was again nice to me came over & talked to me after lunch & said some agreeable things.  He felt that the Ambulance was splendid etc. and always had been but that my unit had given it a chance to branch out [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] as it undoubtedly was doing through the example of this unit and that [[strikethrough]] it [[/strikethrough]] ^[[the work of American]] would become an important factor in establishing international feelings of confidence and sympathy.

Worked all afternoon opening cases.  B. & I dined.  late.  Mrs. Depew came to see me.  She has a hospital
