at Compiegn and has been there ever since the beginning. She had [[strikethrough]] heard [[/strikethrough]] ^[[had word]] that morning [[strikethrough]] that [[/strikethrough]] from the British Red Cross that her six Red Cross nurses were to leave at once because the position was too dangerous. She told me this privately [[strikethrough]] but [[/strikethrough]] had heard that my nurses were idle and wanted me to let her have six for a week while she got others. Of course my whole instinct was to say yes and I did say that I would do all I could to help her & I thought we could arrange it, but that I had to speak to the head doctor and would let her know later. Phil and Slidell arrived about this time and I heard all about Gladys. Dr Martin arrived & we discussed the nurse proposition with B. there too. It was decided to be a mistake to split the unit, we might lose the six entirely as there was no knowing when they would get back should the situation be serious. Besides she could undoubtedly get six nursed that were unoccupied at the present.
