The next day I hustled round and got a few myself for her.

Friday was a horrid day anyway and I hated everything.  Had a crise de nerf in the evening and cried most of the night.  Sat. Phil came early & made me cheer up a little, but just as I got into Ward 77 I found a poor devil dying.  He was horribly wounded in the leg and had gas gangrene, age 21 - his mother and father were there and the priest.  I saw in the eyes of all the other men in the ward the question "will I be the next: But I did cheer up when B. came about six to tell me he had arranged to take me to Dunkirk the next day - being today!  Was absolutely happy.  Olive Philley, Phil, Slidell & Edith Deacon came to dinner.  Went to see the Ambassador off at nine.
