The Campaign round Liege

Although German plans miscarried to the extent of the Germans not getting to Paris they still accomplished great things.  On Aug. 15 & 16th the German army stretched from Maastricht to Alt Breisach through Huy, Arlen, Longwy and Metz.  Germans had opened campaign by invading French territory at Cirey and Longwy.  General Joffre had taken the offensive Alsace invaded by France.  Altkuck and Mulhausen had been captured, Strassburg menaced.  Right wing was based on the fortresses of Belfort and Spinal.  Before a week was passed the mistake of this invasion was acknowledged.

By the 20th Germans have pushed on to Malines and Louvains and Menace Namur, have brought up large forces to Girt, Dinant and Sedan.

By the 22d Brussels has been occupied
