MISSION

The primary mission of the 51st Fighter Interceptor Wing is to gain and maintain aerial superiority and prevent interference from enemy airborne weapons to our fighter bombers and friendly ground forces.

In doing so the 51st has met the enemy MIG-15's and although outnumbered more than 2 to 1, destroyed [[underlined]] 307 [[/underlined]] MIG's, probably destroyed [[underlined]] 36 [[/underlined]], and damaged [[underlined]] 290 [[/underlined]] more. This has been achieved since the transition to F-86's on 1 December 1951 until 27 July 1953. It has been achieved with very small loss of our aircraft.
