ABOUT THE AUTHORS

BILL HUME is a native of Columbia, Missouri. Born in 1916, he finished high school at 15, graduated from the University of Missouri in 1936.

A Navy reservist, he was recalled to active duty in September 1951, after serving in World War II from 1941 to 1945. During his reserve hitch he was stationed with Fleet Aircraft Service, Squadron 120, at Oppama, Japan, as a damage control petty officer.

Besides Navy duties he found time to initiate and keep rolling the popular cartoon series now gathered here. He was, as well, a frequent contributor to the Navy Times and to his local station paper, The Oppaman, on which he served as art editor.

JOHN ANNARINO, co-author with Hume, hails from Punxsutawney, Pa. A journalism graduate of St. Bonaventure University, he enlisted in the Navy in July, 1951. In November, 1951, he reached Oppama where he launched and still edits The Oppaman. He has been a frequent contributor to Pacific Stars and Stripes and has written the book and lyrics for a Navy hit show, "Damn The Torpedoes." The title song from the show was featured in the Japanese motion picture "Yassa Mossa."
