Brigadier General Benjamin O. Davis, Jr.,
Far East Command
United States Army
Tokyo, Japan.

Dear General Davis:

I was delighted to read in the paper this morning of your promotion to Brigadier General.

You probably do not remember me but when you came through Camp Shanks, I guess in 1943, as a Squadron Commander, I was Executive Officer of the then Air Force Command Group at that station. I remember much pleasant contact with you and your Squadron and in fact, I have always personally felt that one of the best jobs I did in the Army was helping your Squadron through that staging area.

Later you came through Camp Patrick Henry at Norfolk, then in command of a Group. I had equally pleasant relations with you and your officers and men there.

Then, to cement my friendship with the Davis family, I was crossing from London to Paris in an A.T.C. plane in the Spring of 1945 and had the pleasure of meeting your father, then I believe, a Major General. I told him of my association with you and we had a most pleasant talk together.

With all good success to you in your expanded responsibilities.

Very sincerely yours,
