Dearest Dodo:

Loving congratulations for your birthday, and I hope that you will have a very happy one, and that you will have a fine time with Therese.  We shall miss you very much, and miss your regular birthday party, and we wish that you were with us here, instead of being so far away.  I am sending you under separate cover a little gift which I hope will please you.  If you should find anything in Florence which you would want very much, I shall be very glad to give it to you, if it is not too expensive, and you must let me know.

My last letter to you was a very hasty one, but it brought you my loving congratulations which I fancy will reach you just in time.  This is my regular birthday letter to you, and I shall tell you as much news as I can muster for the occasion.

First, let me thank you for the cablegram that you sent for Thanksgiving.  We had a very small Thanksgiving party.  Think of it! only Mr. Louden, Miss Valentine and Marie Apel and I were there.  Miss Apel very unexpectedly arrived in New York, and I had a letter from Kate yesterday asking if we would connect up with her and have her over
