conference with Life and Labor and the people there, and then saw the girls in the League office afterwards.  They are such a stunning lot of women, I think, so full of enthusiasm and happiness.  They had had a fair from which they realized seventy-two dollars in one afternoon.  They were very proud and happy.  Poor dears, they are so in need of money, and they have given their ball, and they cleared about $180., but, then, they never work as hard as we do for our ball.  Up to the present time we have cleared about $600.

The girls at our League, Alice Bean and Melinda, spoke of the cards that you had sent, and were so appreciative.  It was so dear of you to do this for they enjoyed getting them.

Frances has done a very good piece of work in connection with the Progressive Party, and the Colonel has taken a number of occasions to speak of her publicly.  As a matter of fact, what I think is happening in the Progressive Party is that they are really being on the square with the women as they are not planning to put women into positions because they are women but because they qualify to do the work.  That is a very distinct gain.  It puts men and women on an absolute equality of sex.  I do not mean to say that they have been able to carry this policy out throughout the country but that is their purpose.  Of course, I suppose they will find women who are not particularly qualified,
