Dearest Girls:

The rush of work due to the Progressive Party and my having been present at Galesburg at the opening meeting, where I spoke with Raymond, plus my trip to Ohio, made me miss my weekly letter to you. I returned from Ohio yesterday and am so filled with enthusiasm about the work and the people that I must write you about it in detail. But before I begin, I want to thank you both for your good letters, and you, especially, Kate, for telling me of your design for the Woman's Building in San Francisco, which I surely hope will be accepted. I am also mighty glad to know of Mariechen's plans and I quite agree with you that she has an unusual opportunity to make good in Detmold, which is so beautifully situated.

I left for Loraine, Ohio, last Friday, reaching there Saturday morning, and was met by a very attractive young Irish woman, Rose Moriarty by name. She is the State Deputy Auditor and has charge of auditing the city books in Elyria. She has just come out victorious in a thrilling fight where she forced the city to accept coal from the lowest bidder and refused to audit the bill for $600.00 which the defeated competitor had sent in for coal sent and used by the city administration to force her hand.
