Brevet Maj. Genl. R. Avery
Inspector Dept. of N.C.

Sir,

I take the liberty of sending you a copy of my Report upon the little Sunday-Schools, that I am laboring to establish, and keep up, among the poor Cold. people of this Sub-Dist. We are too poor to have Day Schools, until provided for, & supported [[underlined]] by law [[/underlined]]- and therefore, I strive to open & maintain Sunday Schools, to teach the Freedmen, at least to read, - in every neighborhood. I assure that vast good has been already done by these humble means - As I know [[underlined]] your deep devotion [[/underlined]] to the [[underlined]] Cause of Education [[/underlined]], I prepared [[underlined]] for you [[/underlined]] a Copy of My Report.

Very respectfully
