Major: [[underlined]] I have forwarded a note yesterday written in a hurry politely requesting you to give information as soon as possible with regard to a freedman named Quash Whitfield whether he is in Jail at Goldsboro' or not. this I requested to notify me by telegraph. I have to forward a report to my superior officer in this case, which I am not able to do unless I have the required information, the case is urgent and without your friendly cooperation I shall be compelled to go myself to Goldsboro' and gether information [[strikethrough]] myself [[/strikethrough]] ^[[with regard]] to the man. If by the receipt of this you would send me a message only in three words I would be enabled to complete my report by to days train time [[/underlined]]
