Gen. Robert Avery.
U. S. Army.

Respected Sir,

You are aware that, I have unfortunately lost my "Discharge Paper". I am out of Employment and am hard put to it to get a support.

I respectfully ask of you that you give me a Certificate to the Effect - that - I have served as a Soldier (Pv't) in Co. C. 102. Reg't. N.Y. vols. this will - I have no doubt - enable me to get work under Col. Moore at the Gov't Cemetery here. By doing me the favor you will greatly assist one in need and which will be duly appreciated.
