another of them, Mr. Bash Bryan sought & accepted the Office of Captain of a Militia Company, his only object in doing so was to avoid conscription, the duties performed by the Militia being of an easy kind or nature

The other — Mr. Micajah E. Edwards — sought & [[strikethrough]] accepted [[/strikethrough]] the position (not office) of Agent of a tighing quarter master in the Confed. service — its duties being to burn [[strikethrough]] tighes [[/strikethrough]] and store tighes at one of the depots in this County. He was conscripted and then detailed for this duty.

Can they or either of them, according to the above statement of facts, [[underlined]] truly take & subscribe [[/underlined]] that portion of the Oath which reads as follows:

"That I have [[strikethrough]] not [[/strikethrough]] never sought nor accepted nor attempted to acquire the functions of any office whatever under any authority or pretended
