like a barrel with buffalo hide streached over the ends. A group of old men wrapped in their sheets or blankets are coming with the drum. They stop in front of the adobe church and dance in a bunch close together, singing the dance music ^[[&]] raising their feet just a little off of the ground very quietly. Then they squat around the drum, which one of them is beating, and clap their hands in time and sing louder while the young men and young women form in two rows facing each other and dance.

The young people are dressed in their gayest clothes and their long straight black hair hangs loose down their backs, both the men's and the squaw's.

The girls and some of the boys hold bunches of bright colored flowers in their hands, moving them up and down in time with their feet.

Some of the boys shake gourd rattles.
