OFFICE OF VICE SECRETARY GENERAL
NATIONAL DEFENSE COUNCIL

March 30, 1957

Brig General Benjamin O. Davis, Jr.
Hq, Air Task Force Thirteen Provisional
Taipei

Dear General Davis:

We always feel sorry to see friends leave; and more so do we feel when we know that you are leaving. It is really a great privilege for us to have been known by you and to have enjoyed your brilliant company during the past few years. Your great personality and the good humor and warmth which you have radiated have made you a friend dear to all. Needless to say, your absence will be keenly felt by us.

Standing on the front line of the free world, you have contributed greatly to the strengthening of the force of freedom, and to the protection of our common interests. I wish to include herewith our sincere appreciations to you for your great assistance in the air defense of this country. You have won for you for more than professional appreciations among your friends in Free China.

On the eve of your departure, I want to add to your collection of Chinese souvenirs another piece which, I hope, will always keep you in remembrance of the good friendship that we have cherished together. It is our belief that if, in this world, you have made a friend good and true, he is always a neighbor to you wherever you are.

My wife joins me in sending to you and to Mrs. Davis our best wishes and personal regards. And we shall look forward to meeting you again in the not-too-distant future.

Sincerely yours,
