Grandmother cried telling me how our day at Anne's grave Uncle had been feeling worse than usual over the impending marriage between Adelaide & Will. Not but that he liked Will; only he felt sure it would put an end to Adelaide's art & be the blow to all his hopes of ambition, & the sorry end to his devotion in her all these years. He felt too that she would not be happy any way but in painting. He cried & kept on - protesting that for him there was only a lonely old age to look forward to.
