If a man believes drink hurts him it does.  If his mind is strong enough to overcome the affects of drink so much that he can truly believe it does not hurt him, it doesn't. So

long as the spirit is the master nothing can hurt it, but if matter becomes master, the result is degrading.  Immorality if you choose.  In this scale of virtue the judge is inside of every man.

But in point of fact very few men will take the trouble to think out what they believe, Consequently they [[strikethrough]] are like[[/strikethrough]] need guidance, like animals who have lost their natural instincts, and gained nothing by civilization to take their place.  So they grasp at the convictions of some recognized thinking man, And his private convictions become law, for people like or unlike him.
