Alice Thévin arrived.

Sunday. Only Mr. Williams of the architecture class came in the evening.

Oct. 20. Desperately blue. A hideous day. Aunt Carrie wept in the morning over her fears about her health, sleeplessness & felt the two devils at present. Went in to see Dr. Gannett--the brevity of a monotonously busy man. Resented, I thought the slight inference that Dr. M [[strikethrough]] was [[/strikethrough]] needed pushing (I repeated parrot like fathers message) Went to see Mrs. Tyler who looked lonesome enough in the dark room sewing alone in her in her great house.

She wished me to begin a new picture not liking the pose of the other.
