1 ^[[Raleigh house about 8 oclock morning Left to hunt our own room. A dismal place $4.00 with a printing establishment opposite and people so evidently staring at us that we were obliged to keep shades down, no curtains.

1 ^[[Oliver decides to go alone to Belmont on night train & return following night after the funeral He didn't seem well. didn't talk much. Went to the Smithsonian institute. Gen Grant relics & present. Indian pottery. Oliver taken sick. Got a doctor on purpose to tell him to stay in bed, but the old good for nothing said he could go & he went on 7 oclock train. Some one tried my bath room door & petrified me with fear. Couldn't sleep. How I hate the place.]]
