THE GLEE CLUB

The High School Glee Club was organized a few weeks after school started for the 1955-1956 session. It meets every Friday from noon to one o'clock at the home of Mrs. Wight, who is our director. Mrs. Smart is our accompanist. The club has sixty members, half of which are Chinese. Normally, we meet once a week, but sometimes before performances, we have extra rehearsals which are often held in the MAAG Chapel.

The Glee Club has given several performances during its short existence. Before Christmas, we sang at a meeting of the MAAG Officers' Wives Club. We sang at two meetings of the Taipei American School Association and also at the Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Youth Center. The repertoire of the club is fairly large for a group of this size. The songs include negro spirituals like "Dry Bones", classical pieces like "Going Home" from Dvorak's "New World Symphony", popular songs like "Make Believe", and patriotic songs like "I Hear America Singing."
