The cheerleaders were formed at the beginning of the school year by Mrs. Williams, our former World Geography teacher. The highschool girls were not very enthusiastic about it, and there were only three girls willing to try out. It was decided that since there were no others who desired to try out, these three would support the school as the cheerleaders. They were Bunny Knight, Ann Walton, and Rena Wright. Later, encouraged by the girls' spirit, Ann Williamson and Marilyn Barron joined ranks. Ann Williamson dropped out eventually and Suzy Davisson gladly filled the vacancy. It was decided among the girls that during the winter, our uniforms would consist of navy blue skirts, white sweaters, and gold ties. In the summer, a white blouse and gold belt replaced the sweaters and ties.

The group held practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays after P.E., and was coached by Mrs. Paulson, a grade school teacher. Mrs. Paulson, who had been a cheerleader herself in her highschool days, encouraged the girls with her peppy attitude and her interest in helping them achieve success. She taught them new cheers and helped to pep up the old ones.

The cheerleaders are grateful for the students' enthusiastic response at the games, and appreciate the donations of new cheers by some of the students.
