Governor of the Gila River Indian community in Sacaton, Arizona. A Pima/Maricopa, Governor White is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Heye Foundation.

Worl, Rosita

Formerly head of the Governor of Alaska's Indian Affairs Office, and now finishing her doctorate. Extremely well known in Alaska, Ms. Worl has effectively completed several curatorial projects and is sensitive to museological concerns as well as Native American priorities.

[[underlined]] SENIOR LEVEL SALARIES [[/underlined]]

At the Secretary's request, Mr. Anderson introduced the following report and recommended actions by tracing the recent history of senior level salary increases which are going into effect this year and next and which are placing the Smithsonian at a severe disadvantage in recruiting and retaining top scholars and administrators. In discussion the importance of immediate action was acknowledged by the Board. The following motions were suggested and approved:

VOTED that the Board of Regents adopts the proposed policy statement on compensation and authorizes the Secretary to implement adjustments to Trust fund salaries as recommended on or about January 1, 1991. Other recommendations regarding administrative procedures should be implemented as soon as practicable.

VOTED that the Board of Regents endorses the provisions of H.R. 3661, legislation sponsored by Messrs. Conte, Whitten, and Mineta to ensure equitable pay for senior Federal staff at the Smithsonian through the establishment of a Smithsonian Senior Service. The Board requests all its Congressional members to support this initiative.
