[[margin]] [[red dot]] [[/margin]] [[underlined]] 58 [[/underlined]]. A delightful garden on the grounds at Holly Hedge, which now belongs to Mr. Ernest Woodward, [[arrow to right margin]] [[margin]] ^[[owned now by Marian duPont Scott]] [[/margin]] was, according to surviving record, ^[[(]]laid out about 1835,^[[)]] and its design belongs to this period. [[bracketed]] The hedges which give the place its name are today made up of an interesting combination of plants - holly, box, cherry-laurel, etc. as are so many English hedges. [[/bracketed]]

[[margin]] [[red dot]] [[/margin]] [[underlined]] 59 [[/underlined]]. The design is in outline a large oval within a rectangle and divided into small varying sections, mostly green and with the white sand path that belongs to South Carolina; it is an enchanting place with its beautiful old tress which accent the design. Very interesting terraces are at the rear of the present house and it seems probable that they ante-date the garden of 1835.
