EVENT NO. 4-FIVE MILES, NOVELTY RACE, FREE FOR ALL. PRIZE CUP TO WINNER.

In this race each driver shall be accompanied by one man. At the end of the first, second, and third miles the driver shall bring his car to a stop, or check its speed, that his assistant can abandon the machine within a twenty-five foot control, located just back of the starting line. The assistant must dash to the judges' stand, where he will pick up some article (such as a potatoe) placed there by the judges and return to his machine, at no time having stepped outside the control. After getting the third article, at the end of the third mile, they have an uninterrupted sprint to the finish. The first car crossing the finish line wins...(Beside the prize cup awarded in this race, a five-dollar gold piece will be given to the first assistant returning his three potatoes to the judge's stand.
