[[underlined]] May 6, [[/underlined]] Caught a bear in no. 4 panther trap, but he did not stay long. Pulled out.

[[underlined]] May 7, [[/underlined]] Caught a larger bear but he pulled out.

[[underlined]] May 8, [[/underlined]] Caught a panther in no. 4 trap and held it a long time, but he finally got the chain wound up and cramped the spring against the tree and got out. Bit and tore the trees he could reach.
