Near the gulf with a river or bay channels up through the town and back into the big swamps and prairies. 

Mostly on a white sand ridge a few feet above tide water and rather dry and poor soil.

Slash pine, scrub pine, narrow leaved cypress, live oaks scrub palms palmettos and bushes on the dry ground. Mangroves and bald cypress along shores and in swamps.
